Praveen Morchhale (Widow of Silence) returns to the festival with his deceptively powerful political drama. Set in Kashmir, we follow the journey of filmmaker Amir, whose short film gets banned after a complaint from a local religious leader, eventually leading to Amir’s arrest. However, his elderly mother Fatima is unwilling to stand by while her son is being silenced and sets off on an arduous journey with her Yak and old cathode Philips TV and a DVD player to show his film in villages across the Himalayan Mountains.

Director-Writer Praveen Morchhale, winner of the National Awards of India and UNESCO-Gandhi Medal Award is known for his subtle, visual poetic humane cinema. His films have been invited to prestigious festivals like Rotterdam, Busan, APSA, Sao Paulo, Goteborg, Seattle, Camerimage, London, Jerusalem, Fribourg, Hamburg, FICA Vesoul and many other festivals in competition and have won awards.
He also served on the National Film Awards 2023 jury.
Praveen Morchhale achieved recognition with his feature film "Widow of Silence" (2018) and Walking With the Wind" (2017) and critics hail him as a new-wave Indian filmmaker. He was nominated for the prestigious Kim Ji-Seok Award for Best Director at Busan IFF 2018 for Widow of Silence.
